Issues



As your Mayor, I will seek to improve the lives of every Atlanta Citizen.

This will be accomplished through aggressive policy changes and improvements in seven key areas:


Public Safety

  • Allow police to focus more on serious crimes by creating new Auxiliary force to handle “Quality of Life” issues.
  • Increase the number of police officers and firefighters along with making their salaries more competitive.
  • Create Police Advisory Commission to examine police misconduct.
  • Create Fire and Rescue Advisory Commission to assist in strategic planning and emergency management issues.
  • Promote use of more volunteers in the fire department to expand services with minimal costs.
  • Implement Campus Watch program on area campuses.
  • Create Taxicab Commission to oversee all area taxi services.
  • Create more community watch and metrowatch programs to increase community involvement and awareness
  • Create Public Safety Director to oversee all areas of public safety.

Environment

  • Create citywide recycling, anti-littering and tree planting programs to improve all areas of the city.
  • Achieve separation of storm drain and water pile systems to prevent overflow and spillage onto city streets.
  • Focus more efforts in increasing use of solar power, greenspaces, and green technology throughout the city.
  • Create new landfill site in two years with better environmental practices to save space and improve efficiency.

Revenue Generation

  • Create new revenue streams thru the use of new .atl domain names, parking tax on non-residents and new tax credits for small businesses.
  • Revitalize Underground Atlanta to become a premiere tourist attraction and encourage growth in the area through new stores and movie theatres.
  • Increase use of TAD districts to improve neglected areas and their infrastructures with minimum financial burden
  • Create a new street vendor program to encourage local entrepreneurs and improve street traffic and safety in current low traffic areas.
  • Creation of new entertainment district to take the place of Buckhead Village to increase sales tax revenue and property values.

Urban Planning

  • Creation of Home Again program to turn vacant residential properties into affordable single-family housing.
  • Emphasis on well-defined business district to improve job creation, reduce traffic and create more pedestrian areas so to add to quality of life.
  • Five-year moratorium on condo development to decrease vacancy rates and improve property values.

Infrastructure

  • Create a streetlight commission to oversee improvements, planning and public comments on all city streetlights.
  • Complete redesign of Atlanta street patterns to improve traffic flow and handle current population growth since the 1996 Summer Olympics.
  • Create Traffic Department Liaison to work with all citizens on traffic management and street designs.
  • Establish ten-year plan for each NPU to maximize efficiency and improve level of service for all citizens.
  • Create infill development specialists to help promote restoration and maintenance of historic areas and buildings in line with current growth patterns.
  • Consolidation of city and county services to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Achieve separation of storm drain and water pile systems to prevent overflow and spillage onto city streets.
  • Implement Public Improvement Program to encourage business and citizens to take pride in their neighborhoods and assist in all areas of improvements.


Transportation

  • Creation of a Transit Unification Plan to unify all transit systems and explore ways that city, county and state partners share costs to improve transportation services.


Accountability

  • Increase public/private partnerships to help spread costs, improve services and free up money for other areas in need.
  • Advocate for Performance Based Pay for all City of Atlanta employees to encourage efficiency and better performance.
  • Make Councilpersons a full-time position to encourage higher attendance, participation and better understanding of all issues facing them.
  • Mainstream complaint process to give citizens more voice in how the city can improve itself.
  • Streamline government in all areas.
  • Create internship program to encourage students to pursue public service careers.
